With Slot Machine’s new single, ‘The Land of Himmaphan,’ we switch to a kind of music Slot Machine has never done before, reggae.
“We feel that reggae and northeastern Thai music have some similar elements. But we didn’t want pure reggae, we just borrowed the rhythm.The song is not as upbeat. The guitar lines and melody are not exactly reggae either and this is what we got in the end,”…… Slot Machine’s singer, Foet said.
“We put the organ sound in the middle to get that vintage vibe. It’s a combination of reggae, Thai folk, world music and Slot Machine.” ....from the band’s bassist, Gak.
It takes listeners to the imaginary land of Himmaphan - in a distinctively Slot Machine style.
About The Video : The music video features footage from the band’s recent homecoming “The Mothership” concert in Bangkok, set against a backdrop of exciting animation that takes the viewer on a trip through the land of Himmaphan.
เปลี่ยนอารมณ์กันด้วยเพลงแบบที่ สล็อต แมชีน ไม่เคยทำ นั่นคือเพลงที่มีกลิ่นของดนตรีเร็กเก้!
“เรารู้สึกว่าดนตรีเร็กเก้กับดนตรีอีสานของไทยมันมีอะไรบางอย่างคล้ายกันอยู่ แต่เราก็ไม่ได้อยากทำเพลงเร็กเก้ เลยรักษาแค่จังหวะไว้ แต่ไม่ได้เน้นอัพบีต (Upbeat – จังหวะยก) เหมือนเพลงเร็กเก้ และการคิดกีต้าร์และเมโลดี้ของเพลงก็พยายามไม่ให้เหมือนเพลงเร็กเก้ แล้วเราก็ได้ผลลัพธ์ออกมาเป็นเพลงนี้” เฟิร์สเล่าถึงวิธีคิดเพลง
“ตอนผมฟังเมโลดี้ที่เฟิร์สคิดตอนแรกผมนึกถึง ชาย เมืองสิงห์ เลยครับ” แก๊กเล่าพลางหัวเราะ “ก็เลยเป็นที่มาของโซโล่เสียงออร์แกนตรงกลางที่อยากให้มีอารมณ์เก๋าๆ แบบนั้นด้วย เพลงนี้ก็เลยกลายเป็นการผสมผสานทั้งเร็กเก้ ลูกทุ่ง ความเป็นเวิร์ลมิวสิค และความเป็นวงของเรา”
เนื้อเพลงเพลงนี้ยังมีความพิเศษตรงที่เป็นการเล่าเรื่องคล้ายนิทาน มีตัวละครเด็กชายเป็นตัวเดินเรื่อง ให้ภาพที่เต็มไปด้วยจินตนาการ ดูลึกลับแต่ก็น่าค้นหา โดย โป โปษยะนุกูล เป็นคนเสนอให้ใช้ ‘ป่าหิมพานต์’ ในวรรณคดีไทยมาเป็นชื่อเพลงเพื่อเชื่อมโยงกับความเป็นไทยด้วย ลีลาเนิบๆ ท่วงทำนองติดหู เสียงกีต้าร์และคีย์บอร์ดที่คอยตอดอยู่ทั้งเพลง จะนำพาจินตนาการของผู้ฟังไปสู่ดินแดนป่าหิมพานต์ในจินตนาการของ สล็อต แมชีน ได้อย่างที่ฟังได้ไม่รู้เบื่อ
